Olympic Figure Skating 2026 USA Dates, Times, Odds for Remaining Event Schedule

Joe TanseyFeb 9, 2026

The United States is aiming to win four of the five gold medals in figure skating at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Team USA kicked off the program at the Milan Cortina Games with a gold medal in the team event.

The focus now turns to the individual events, starting with the ice dance on Monday.

Madison Chock and Evan Bates are favored to win in ice dance. They are two-time gold medalists in the team event, but haven't won in the discipline they've dominated over the last few years.

Ilia Malinin will be the favorite in the men's competition, but he faces stiff competition from the Japanese athletes he went head-to-head with in the team event.

Alysa Liu, Amber Glenn and Isabeau Levito all have chances to medal in the women's event, but they are all chasing Japan's Kaori Sakamoto.

Figure Skating - Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics: Day 0

The two skates in each discipline during the team event gave us a good idea of what to expect in the individual events.

Madison Chock and Evan Bates are the clearest American gold-medal favorite based on those results. They win both the short program and free dance to give Team USA the maximum amount of points.

Chock and Bates have been the dominant pair in ice dance for the majority of this Olympic cycle. All that's left for them to achieve is the Olympic gold medal .

Ilia Malinin is an overwhelming favorite to win the men's event, but winning might not be as easy as the lofty odds suggest.

Japan's Yuma Kagiyama beat out Malinin in the short program by 10 points.

You could chalk that up to Malinin keeping some moves in the bag for the men's event, or to the nerves of competing on Olympic ice for the first time, but that result still happened and it'll give Kagiyama a sliver of hope going into the event.

Kagiyama is realistically the only skater who can challenge Malinin. The others, including Japan's Shun Sato and Italy's Daniel Grassl will be fighting for bronze.

Japan's Kaori Sakamoto is the established favorite to win the women's singles event.

Alysa Liu appears to be the better gold-medal threat from the American trio based on the team event. Liu had a much cleaner short program compared to Amber Glenn's free skate.

Glenn's lack of a podium finish at the World Championships is concerning. Liu is the reigning world champion and Isabeau Levito was on the podium in 2024.

The Americans will have a shot at gold, but whomever challenges Sakamoto has to be perfect.
