Drake Maye, Patriots Offense Criticized by NFL Fans for Struggles in Super Bowl 60 Loss to Seahawks

Andrew PetersFeb 8, 2026

The New England Patriots put together a tremendous turnaround season behind an MVP-caliber season from quarterback Drake Maye, but offensive struggles kept them from winning their first Super Bowl since 2018.

The Seattle Seahawks' defensive overwhelmed the Patriots in a 29-13 victory.

Maye finished with 295 passing yards and two touchdowns on 27-of-43 passing, along with a fumble and two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown. The second-year quarterback also took six sacks. The Pats finished with 79 rushing yards in the loss.

After the loss, fans criticized a lackluster performance from New England's offense.

The first quarter set the tone for the defensive battle as the Seahawks led 3-0 thanks to an early field goal. It marked New England's first scoreless first quarter in a Super Bowl since 1996.

The Patriots couldn't get on the board before halftime, and Seattle managed to take a 9-0 lead heading into the third quarter. The Seahawks poured it on further in the third quarter with a field goal before scoring the first touchdown of the game early in the fourth quarter.

New England's offense finally managed to put together a scoring drive as Maye found Mack Hollins on a 35-yard touchdown pass, but that still left the Pats down 12 points with just under 13 minutes to play.

The Patriots then had back-to-back drives with turnovers, one being a fumble that was returned for a touchdown to make it 29-7. At that point, with just over five minutes to play, there was little New England could do to get back in the game.

The Pats showed tremendous growth in 2025. Mike Vrabel proved to be the right head coaching hire and Maye proved to be a rising star. Still, there is plenty of work to be done before New England can win another Super Bowl.
