Melvin Gordon's Mom Will Not Wear His Chargers Jersey Until He Proves Himself
While many Melvin Gordon fans will be wearing No. 28 San Diego Chargers jerseys this coming season, don't expect to see his mother, Carmen Gordon, wearing one in the stands on game days just yet.
He has to prove himself in the NFL before she will do so.
In a story published Monday, Carmen told ESPN's Eric D. Williams that she won't wear his jersey until he earns the honor, just like she did when her son played for the Wisconsin Badgers.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
“You’ve got to show me a little something, but it won’t be this year,” Carmen told Williams. “So you might see me in the stands, but I won’t have the jersey on. I did the same thing in college because I just want to hear what people are saying.”
Carmen revealed she did not wear her son's No. 25 jersey at Wisconsin until his senior season.
That stance doesn't mean that she doesn't believe in her son, however. She has faith in him and expects big things out of the running back.
Some may believe Gordon will go out and set the Chargers' rookie record for rushing yards in a season, eclipsing LaDainian Tomlinson's mark of 1,236 yards. While that may happen, his mother just wants him to be focused on the task at hand.
“There’s nothing wrong with that,” Carmen told Williams. “It makes him better. I just know he’s got to get focused. It’s a learning curve, and I get that. You want him to do so well, but I think he expects so much so fast. But he’ll get it, I know he will.”
Being a first-round pick looks nice on a resume, but it doesn't guarantee success in the NFL. Gordon will now have to prove himself against the best football players in the world. Until he does so, he shouldn't expect to see his mom wearing his jersey in the stands.
