Olympic 2026 Medal Count, Final Tally, Winners from Day 2 Early Events

Breezy Johnson won Team USA's first gold medal of the 2026 Winter Olympics on Sunday morning.

Johnson took first in the women's downhill, an event that the Americans have had plenty of success in at past Winter Olympics.

Johnson's gold is expected to be the first of two victories for the United States on Sunday. Team USA in in the lead in the team figure skating competition, which concludes on Sunday afternoon.

Norway, who had the most medals in 2022, became the first country to win multiple golds at the Milan Cortina Games. Norway took home golds in speed skating and cross-country skiing on Sunday.

Italy's dream start to its home Olympics also continued on Day 2 with four total medals. Italy is the early leader in the overall medal count.

Women's Downhill

Gold: Breezy Johnson (United States) - 1:36.10

Silver: Emma Aicher (Germany) - 1:36.14

Bronze: Sofia Goggia (Italy) - 1:36.69

Breezy Johnson won the first American gold medal of the Milan Cortina Games.

Johnson raced through the downhill course in 1:36.10, four seconds faster than silver medalist Emma Aicher.

Johnson, the 2025 world champion in women's downhill, was a tremendous bright spot for Team USA on a rough day for one of its biggest stars.

Lindsey Vonn crashed in her downhill run and had to be helicoptered off the course. The 41-year-old competed on a torn ACL she suffered in the final event before the Olympics.

Aicher won her second-career Olympic silver medal and first in an individual event. She took second with Germany in the team event in 2022.

Italy's Sofia Goggia completed her full set of downhill medals with her bronze-medal performance. She won gold in 2018 and silver in 2022.

Gold: Johannes Klaebo (Norway) - 46:11.0

Silver: Mathis Desloges (France) - 46:13.0

Bronze: Martin Nyenget (Norway) - 46:13.1

Norway's Johannes Klaebo started his quest to win all six cross-country gold medals on Sunday.

Klaebo ran away from a group of four other skaters on the final lap to capture his sixth overall Olympic gold medal.

Klaebo is attempting to replicate his success from the 2025 World Championships. He won all six events at that competition.

Martin Nyenget added to Norway's medal haul in the event with a bronze medal.

Norway won eight men's cross-country medals, including five golds, at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

Women's Snowboard Parallel Giant Slalom

Snowboard - Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics: Day 2

Gold: Zuzana Maderova (Czechia)

Silver: Sabine Payer (Austria)

Bronze: Lucia Dalmasso (Italy)

Zuzana Maderova extended Czechia's dominance in the women's parallel giant slalom.

Maderova defeated Austria's Sabine Payer in the final to win Czechia's third straight gold in the event. Ester Ledecka was the Olympic champion in 2018 and 2022.

Payer became the second Austrian in a row to win silver in the event.

Lucia Dalmasso continued Italy's impressive start to its home Olympics with the country's third bronze medal.

Gold: Benjamin Karl (Austria)

Silver: Kim Sangkyum (South Korea)

Bronze: Tervel Zamfirov (Bulgaria)

Benjamin Karl successfully defended his gold medal from the 2022 Winter Olympics in the men's parallel giant slalom.

Karl defeated South Korea's Kim Sangkyum in the final to become the second-ever repeat winner in the event. Switzerland's Philipp Schoch also achieved the feat in 2002 and 2006.

Tervel Zamfirov won the bronze medal on a photo finish in the third-place race to earn Bulgaria's first Winter Olympics medal since 2006 and the country's first-ever snowboarding medal.

Biathlon 4x6 km Mixed Relay

Gold: France

Silver: Italy

Bronze: Germany

France took home the first biathlon gold of the Milan Cortina Games.

The French team beat out Italy by 25 seconds to secure first in the 4x6-kilometer mixed relay.

The win was the second for France in the mixed relay. It has medaled in three of the four mixed relay events held at the Winter Olympics.

Italy and Germany rounded out the medal podium, but it was the team on the outside of the top three that caught more headlines.

Norway, the two-time winner and three-time medalist in the event, took fourth.

Men's Speed Skating 5,000m

Gold: Sander Eitrem (Norway) - 6:03.95

Silver: Metodej Jilek (Czechia) - 6:06.48

Bronze: Riccardo Lorello (Italy) - 6:09.22

Norway's Sander Eitrem set the Olympic record on his gold-medal winning skate in the men's 5,000 meters.

Eitrem, who is also the world record holder, blew away the rest of the field. Silver medalist Metodej Jilek finished almost three full seconds behind the winner.

Ricardo Lorello earned a surprise bronze medal for Italy. He picked up third place from the third of 10 pairing to compete on Sunday.

Perhaps the even more surprising result was the lack of any Dutch skater on the medal podium. The Netherlands were shut out of men's 5,000 meters medals for the first time since 1984.

Figure Skating - Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics: Day 2

Gold: United States (69 points)

Silver: Japan (68)

Bronze: Italy (60)

The United States and Japan were tied at 59 points apiece going into the final portion of the team event, the men's free skate.

In the end, Ilia Malinin (also known as the "Quad God") took it home for Team USA, scoring 200.03 points and finishing first. Japan's Shun Sato took second with 194.86 points.

The United States held a five-point lead going into the final day of the competition, but Japan pulled even thanks to finishing first in the pair free skate (Miura Riku and Kihara Ryuichi) and women's free skate (Kaori Sakamoto).

However, Malinin pulled through in the end, and the United States has now won gold in team figure skating for two straight Winter Games.
