Adam WellsFeb 8, 2026

The NFL has called on Peyton Manning, Joe Montana and Lynn Swann to serve as the honorary coin toss captains for Super Bowl 60 on Sunday night.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the league selected this trio to represent three different eras of Super Bowl history, including the 50th anniversary of Super Bowl 10 when Swann and the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Dallas Cowboys.

Manning is commemorating the 10th anniversary of his final NFL game when the Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50. That game was held at Levi's Stadium, site of Sunday's game between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots.

Levi's Stadium is also the home of the San Francisco 49ers, who Montana spent the first years of his career with and won four Super Bowl titles. His first championship was won in the Bay Area, when the Niners defeated the Miami Dolphins at Stanford Stadium in Super Bowl 16.

Super Bowl 10 is one of the most famous games in NFL history, including being voted one of the 100 greatest games of all-time as part of the league's 100th anniversary celebration in 2019.

The Steelers defeated the Cowboys 21-17 behind Swann's MVP performance. He caught four passes for 161 yards and a touchdown to became the first wide receiver to win Super Bowl MVP.

As part of the America 250 celebration throughout this year, the NFL has commissioned a custom silver medal to use for the toss. The "heads" side will feature a profile of Lady Liberty and a stamp with "4 Juil 1776." The "tails" side features the goddess Minerva protecting the infant Hercules from an attacking lion that has been used as an allegory of France's assistance in protecting the U.S. from British rule in the nation's early days.

All three legends will join the referees and team captains on the field to take part in the coin toss.

Super Bow 60 is scheduled to kick off from Levi's Stadium at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday.
