Olympic Figure Skating Results 2026 Men's Short Program, Full Scores, Highlights From Team Event
Ilia Malinin surprisingly took second in the men's short program portion of the figure skating team event on Saturday.
Malinin, the overwhelming favorite in the men's singles event, took second on Saturday to his biggest rival Yuma Kagiyama.
The United States still leads the team event by one point over Japan, but the results of the men's short program were surprising, especially with the margin Kagiyama won by.
Malinin didn't earn the best score of his career, but he still delivered some stunning moments, including a backflip.
Malinin has a few more opportunities to get the best of Kagiyama at the Milan Cortina Games.
The United States could opt to skate Malinin again in the team event during the men's free skate to secure the most points possible. That decision likely will not be made until after the ice dance pair of Madison Chock and Evan Bates do their free skate routine on Saturday.
Malinin and Kagiyama will for sure duel in the men's singles event, which is set to begin on Tuesday.
