Rex Ryan's Son Seth Reportedly Hired as Jets' Passing-Game Coordinator Under HC Aaron Glenn

Another member of the Ryan family is joining the New York Jets' coaching staff.

ESPN's Rich Cimini reported Saturday the team is hiring Seth Ryan as its passing-game coordinator. Seth is the son of former Jets coach Rex Ryan, and grandfather Buddy was their defensive line coach from 1968-75.

Ryan played collegiately at Clemson and first entered the NFL coaching ranks in 2019 with the Los Angeles Chargers. The Detroit Lions then hired him as an assistant wide receivers coach in 2021 and changed his role this past season, shifting him over to their tight ends as an assistant coach.

Becoming a passing game coordinator is a step up for the 31-year-old, and his reputation could improve by leaps and bounds if the Jets offense shows a marked jump in 2026.

Davis Webb and Nate Scheelhaase both got head-coaching buzz this cycle thanks to their work as pass game coordinators with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams, respectively. In the case of Webb, he was promoted to Denver's offensive coordinator.

In New York, Ryan will work under newly hired offensive coordinator Frank Reich.

The retired quarterback was the Chargers' offensive coordinator in 2014 and 2015 before spending two years with the Philadelphia Eagles in the same role. He has also compiled a 41-43-1 record as a head coach with the Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers.

The Jets have no shortage of needs to address across the roster, and quarterback is one of them.

New York isn't in an advantageous position when it comes to the 2026 NFL draft as it has the No. 2 pick in year with just one standout QB, Indiana's Fernando Mendoza.
