Olympic Opening Ceremonies 2026 Best Social Highlights and Reaction

The 2026 Winter Olympics were officially opened by the lighting of the Olympic flame on Friday night.

The opening ceremony was based at the San Siro in Milan, but it also took place at a few different alpine venues, including Cortina d'Ampezzo.

The Olympic flame was officially lit simultaneously in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo by famous Italian Winter Olympians.

Team USA made one of the last entrances into the San Siro during the Parade of Athletes. Speed skater Erin Jackson led the Americans into the stadium as the flag bearer.

Before the athletes walked into the stadium, the performances caught the attention of many because of their uniqueness.

Andrea Bocelli was one of the many performers throughout the ceremony. He sang right before the Olympic flame was lit across northern Italy.

Competition across various venues in Milan, Cortina d'Ampezzo and northern Italy will take place for the next two weeks.

Team USA is expected to contend with Norway and Germany for the most medals won.
