Deion Sanders Breaks Down Keys to Victory for Patriots, Seahawks in Video Ahead of Super Bowl 60

Scott PolacekFeb 6, 2026

Deion Sanders won two Lombardi Trophies during his Hall of Fame career, so he knows better than most what it takes to succeed on the Super Bowl stage.

"Whoever plays bad is going to lose," the Colorado head coach said during a Friday appearance on First Take. "Whichever quarterback steps up and takes that next step, they're going to win. And whoever protects the ball the best."

There could, of course, be a situation where both Sam Darnold and Drake Maye play well and protect the ball. If that is the case, Sanders will be looking for someone to make a big play.

"If the quarterbacks are on an even scale, then who has the best playmakers? Who has the guys with the propensity to make the plays? That's where you're going to find the winner," he said.

The quarterback breakdown is an interesting one, as Maye was the runner-up for league MVP during the regular season but has not played up to his full potential in the postseason. In fact, he threw for just 86 yards while going 10-of-21 in the AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos, although the weather was partially to blame.

Darnold, by comparison, was brilliant in the NFC Championship Game against the Los Angeles Rams while going 25-of-36 for 346 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions.

It was an unbelievable performance from a quarterback who once looked like a failed top-three draft pick for the New York Jets. But he has come a long way from going 13-25 during his tenure with the AFC East team.

He also has quite the playmaker in Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who led the league with 1,793 receiving yards. Stefon Diggs led the Patriots with 1,013 receiving yards and has been Maye's top playmaker throughout the campaign.

Maye and Diggs will be hard-pressed to keep up with the Darnold and Smith-Njigba combination, especially since the Seahawks defense finished first in the league in points allowed.

If that defense plays as well as it has for much of the season, the Seahawks will be joining Sanders in the group of Super Bowl champions.
