FSKATING-OLY-2026-MILANO CORTINA

The United States figure skating team jumped out to an early advantage Friday with a stellar start from Madison Chock and Evan Bates in the Team Event.

Chock and Bates tallied a 91.06 performance, putting them ahead of France and setting up the Americans for a potentially prolific 2026 Olympics in Milan Cortina.

The United States has one of the best teams in the games and sent 16 skaters to the games (three men, three women, two pairs, and ice dance teams). One more pair and they would have been the first nation to send a full team since the 1984 games, per Lisa Costantini for Team USA.

Ilia Malinin is arguably the best skater in the world. Nicknamed the "Quad God" because of his ability to land one of the most difficult moves in the sport, the Quadruple Axel, he has dominated in recent competition and should be favored to take home the gold.

It has been a long two decades since a women's figure skater has taken home a medal in the Winter Olympics, with 2006 being the last time. With Amber Glenn and Alysa Liu leading the way, that should change this year.

Add in an eventful start for Chock and Bates, the most prolific duo in United States ice dance history, and you have the setup for a fruitful games for the American figure skating team.

Prediction: Malinin dominates on his way to gold, Glenn ends the American women's medal drought, and Chock and Bates add Olympic gold to their impressive resume
