Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston Trade Barbs Over Baseball Careers, Debate Who Would Win Matchup

New York Giants teammates Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston recently went back and forth regarding their baseball abilities.

"Russell Wilson is a strategic genius," Winston said during a Thursday appearance on the Pat McAfee Show. "He did play for the Yankees, don't do him like that. But, I will strike Russell's butt out."

Wilson eventually responded in a post on X.

Winston played baseball while in college at Florida State and was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of the 2012 MLB draft.

He served as a relief pitcher and outfielder for the Seminoles, compiling a 1.94 ERA in two years. Winston also recorded 52 strikeouts compared to 19 walks in 60.1 innings of work.

At the plate, he posted a .209/.356/.304 slash line in 158 at-bats.

As for Wilson, he was taken in the 41st round of the 2007 MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles before the Orioles offered him a $350,000 signing bonus to forgo his commitment to NC State.

He chose to play in college instead before he was eventually selected by the Colorado Rockies with a fourth-round draft pick in 2010.

Wilson appeared in 61 games with Single-A Asheville during the 2011 season, hitting three home runs and five doubles to go along with 15 RBI. He also posted a .708 OPS.

While Wilson eventually stopped playing to focus on his budding football career, he attended spring training with the Rangers in 2014 and 2015 before doing the same with the New York Yankees in 2018.
