Brandon Aubrey, Cowboys Agree to Historic Contract Extension, Impact on NFL Salary Cap
The Dallas Cowboys retained a key member of their roster on Monday.
The Cowboys and kicker Brandon Aubrey agreed to a new four-year, $28 million contract, agents Todd France and AJ Stevens told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Prior to this extension, the Cowboys had $14.4 million salary cap space for 2026 and a projected $10.4 million in space for 2027, per Over The Cap.
Aubrey was a restricted free agent this offseason, but he previously told team reporter Tommy Yarrish that he "absolutely" wanted to remain in Dallas, and now he's got his wish.
The Cowboys had placed a $5.7 million second-round tender on Aubrey entering the offseason, which allowed them to match any offer he received on the open market.
While kickers and other special teamers are often considered an afterthought, Aubrey has set himself apart from the pack. The 30-year-old has been selected to the Pro Bowl in all three of his NFL seasons while earning All-Pro honors in each year, including a first-team selection in his rookie year in 2023.
This past season, Aubrey connected on 36 of his 42 field goals and 47 out of 48 PATs. He made game-winning field goals in victories over the New York Giants in Week 2 and the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12. His three field goals from a distance of 55 yards or more in a Week 14 loss to the Detroit Lions set an NFL single-game record. He also holds the all-time record for most career field goals made from 60 yards or longer, with six.
The Cowboys are coming off a 7-9-1 finish in 2025 and a second straight year out of the playoffs. Retaining Aubrey gives Dallas arguably the best special-teams weapon in the league as it tries to contend for a postseason spot in 2026.
