Sam Darnold Gives Injury Update Ahead of Seahawks vs. Patriots in Super Bowl 60

Timothy RappFeb 4, 2026

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold doesn't seem too worried about his oblique injury ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl matchup with the New England Patriots.

"It feels really good," Darnold told reporters Wednesday. "Definitely the time off has helped a little bit. I'm always just going to take it one step at a time, do my rehab and do everything I need to do to make sure it feels great going into practice and going into the game... on Sunday."

Head coach Mike Macdonald gave an update on Darnold's practice workload, meanwhile.

"We'll see today," he said. "It's definitely gradually increasing by the day. So, some days more than others. But he's in a great spot. I know he's really confident. We'll see how today plays out. I'm not entirely sure how many throws or what percentage of throws. I can't really give you right now."

Darnold suffered the injury on Jan. 15 but has looked pretty good in these playoffs, throwing for 470 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in wins over the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. It sounds as though it won't be a major issue on Sunday either.
