Travis Etienne Jr., Saints Reportedly Agree to Contract, What's Impact on Alvin Kamara, Depth Chart?
After spending the first four years of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Travis Etienne Jr. is on the move.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the running back is signing with the New Orleans Saints in free agency. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported it's a four-year, $52 million deal.
New Orleans quarterback Tyler Shough appears to be a fan of the move:
Here's a look at what the Saints running back room looks like after the trade:
RB1: Travis Etienne, Alvin Kamara
RB2: Devin Neal, Audric Estime, Kendre Miller, Evan Hull
Kamara is currently set to enter the final year of his contract and has a cap hit of $10.5 million in 2026. His dead cap hit would be $19.5 million, per Spotrac.
The deal comes after a strong season for Etienne. The former 25th overall pick in 2021 posted 1,107 rushing yards and seven touchdowns while adding 292 receiving yards and six touchdowns through the air.
He was one of the most reliable options in Liam Coen's offense and was a big reason why Jacksonville finished the year 13-4, marking its best season in more than two decades.
Etienne, 27, has posted 1,000 or more rushing yards in three of his first four seasons and has 32 total career touchdowns. Some fans perhaps didn't know what to expect from Etienne after a bit of a down year in 2024, but he proved he can be a valuable asset in any offense.
The Jaguars kept Etienne around in 2025 after exercising their club option on his rookie contract. Using a franchise tag on him this offseason seemed out of the picture since it would have come at a high price, so Jacksonville ultimately had to let him walk.
Now, he'll join the Saints, where he'll look to build off of a strong 2025 season.
