Jim Doesn't Need No Stinkin Offensive Coordinator!
No moral victories Saturday night in Columbus as The Ohio State Buckeyes went down to a last minute defeat to SoCal. Former "all everything" recruit Terrelle Pryor's performance was less than mediocre. Pryor showed no improvement from last year.
Why the collapse? Either the talent to operate as a QB at the highest level is not there or the coaching is not there.
Let's examine the qualifications of Nick Siciliano, the Bucks QB coach. Number one he is a Tressel crony from Youngstown State. In his ten years as a college coach, Siciliano has made stops in Norman as a video coordinator for "Boomer" Stoops as well as North Carolina A&T and Urbana University (Urbana, Ohio).
Now boys and girls, lets compare Southern Cal's QB coach Jeremy Bates and his qualifications. He lettered as a QB at Tennessee and Rice following a transfer. He then joined the NFL several years later (2002) with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The year they won the super bowl. He then did a stint as QB coach with the New York Jets and ended up with the Bronco's last year with Jay Cutler. Do you notice a trend here?
You saw Bates working with freshman QB Barkley during the game and saw Pryor jumping around on the field celebrating a missed field goal. Obviously the in depth coaching Pryor received during the game was the occasional Tressel chat.
It doesn't take a genius to realize what's happening in Columbus. If Jimbo is satisfied with his "boy's" and their work as coaches, we are doomed to seeing the elite of the football world beat OSU.
Fortunately for Tressel, the rest of the Big Ten is stagnate too. The only exception is "Slick Rick" up in Wishigan who will get a boat load of violations about the time he starts winning.
