Tom Brady Texted 'GOAT' Bill Belichick After Snub, Reacts to Possibly Entering Hall of Fame Together

Joseph ZuckerFeb 3, 2026

New England Patriots legend Tom Brady reached out to his former coach after Bill Belichick missed the cut for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2026 class.

"I sent him a text message," Brady said at the 22:08 mark in the newest episode of the Let's Go! podcast. "He's gonna get in, obviously. ...I think when he is inducted, he's gonna have a huge group of players that have played under him, a family that's been there for him, of other coaches that he's impacted that are there to celebrate him."

The 15-time Pro Bowler also called Belichick the greatest coach in NFL history.

Co-host Jim Gray raised the possibility of Belichick also getting snubbed in 2027, thus putting him in a position to be inducted when Brady is first HOF-eligible in 2028.

The former quarterback said it would be an "honor" and "pretty special" to go in alongside Belichick.

Given the overwhelming reaction to his omission, the odds of Belichick becoming a Hall of Famer next year look pretty strong.

One silver lining to recent events is that it has changed the general conversation around the 73-year-old.

Belichick's resume speaks for itself. Brady isn't alone in considering him the greatest coach in modern history.

But the last few years haven't been kind to the eight-time Super Bowl champion.

The Patriots tailed off toward the end of his tenure, going 4-13 in his final season, and his debut campaign at North Carolina was a flop as the Tar Heels finished 4-8.

In addition, Belichick's private life became a major story in a way it never had before. His relationship with Jordon Hudson has been a regular source of tabloid fodder.

A lot of people reveled in it all.

Now, Belichick looks like a sympathetic figure whose accomplishments aren't receiving their just due.

It's tough to picture him getting overlooked two years in a row, and the outcome of the 2026 voting could lead the Hall of Fame to alter the entire process.

Putting coaches, contributors and senior players all on the same ballot is inevitably going to create outcomes that are unfair to deserving candidates. Having coaches in a separate category would ease the path to entry.

Even if the process remains exactly the same, the selection committee is bound to view Belichick much differently next year than it did this time around.
