Who is Shedeur Sanders' New QB Coach on Browns? What to Know About Mike Bajakian

Andrew PetersFeb 1, 2026

Heading into his second NFL season, Shedeur Sanders will have a new quarterbacks coach.

Per multiple reports, the Cleveland Browns are hiring Mike Bajakian as their new quarterbacks coach under new head coach Todd Monken, who was hired on Wednesday.

Bajakian, 51, was hired to be Michigan State's quarterbacks coach last month, but he'll instead head to the NFL for the first time since 2018.

A quarterback at Williams College from 1992 to 1995, Bajakian cut his teeth as an assistant coach for a handful of programs before landing his first NFL gig as an offensive quality control coach for the Chicago Bears from 2004 to 2006.

From there, he went back to the collegiate ranks and served as the offensive coordinator for Central Michigan, Cincinnati and Tennessee. He returned to the NFL in 2015, taking over as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' quarterbacks coach. In that role, Bajakian helped Jameis Winston earn the only Pro Bowl nod of his career in 2015.

After his stint with the Bucs, he spent time as the offensive coordinator at Boston College and Northwestern before taking a job as an offensive analyst at Utah. In 2025, Bajakian served as UMass's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Now, he'll join Monken, whom he worked alongside of in Tampa Bay.

Sanders is coming off a decent rookie year in which he posted 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions in eight games. The former fifth-round pick clearly still has some developing to do, and Bajakian will look to get him to the next level.
