Packers' Sean Duggan, Dolphins Reportedly Expected to Reach DC Contract to Join Jeff Hafley's Staff

Andrew PetersFeb 1, 2026

The Miami Dolphins reportedly have landed their new defensive coordinator.

Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the team is "expected to hire" Green Bay Packers linebackers coach Sean Duggan to join new head coach Jeff Hafley.

Duggan played linebacker at Boston College before cutting his teeth as a coach at a handful of collegiate programs. He worked alongside Hafley at Ohio State in 2019 and was on his staff at Boston College, first as a linebackers coach and then as a co-defensive coordinator.

After Hafley took over as Green Bay's defensive coordinator, Duggan followed him there and became a defensive assistant. He was named linebackers coach ahead of the 2025 campaign.

Now, Duggan will remain with Hafley in Miami as they begin their eighth consecutive season together.

Hafley has landed a handful of Packers' coaches on his new staff since taking the job in Miami. Along with Duggan, he's hired defensive backs coach Ryan Downard, defensive quality control assistant Wendel Davis and defensive analyst Nathaniel Hackett.

It's not much of a surprise to see so much of the Packers' staff head to the Dolphins, considering Miami hired former Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan to be its new general manager and then landed Hafley as their head coach.

The Dolphins will look to Duggan to turn things around defensively after a few rough seasons on that side of the ball. Miami is coming off a year in which it allowed the 11th-most yards per game (348.8) and the ninth-most points per game (24.9).
