'Dude's a Baller,' C.J. Stroud Defended by Nico Collins amid Criticism from Texans' Playoff Loss

Doric SamFeb 1, 2026

Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud had his worst performance at the worst time in a loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Divisional Round, but he still has the support of his teammates.

While speaking to KPRC2's Aaron Wilson, Texans wide receiver Nico Collins came to Stroud's defense amid the ongoing criticisms of his struggles in the playoffs.

"The dude's a baller, man," Collins said (h/t Bobby Kownack of NFL.com). "One freak of an athlete. So, I'm excited for next year. Just can't wait to get back on the field with the guys, get back grinding, and continue to be great."

Stroud threw four interceptions in a 28-16 loss against New England to end Houston's season. Collins missed the game with a concussion, one of many key players who were sidelined for the Texans.

Following the loss, questions arose regarding Stroud's status as Houston's franchise quarterback. Still, Collins made it clear that the Texans believe in him, and that won't change anytime soon.

"Just keep your head up," Collins said when asked what he's told Stroud since the loss. "Like, it's not the way we want to end, you know what I'm saying? Our goal was to go to the Super Bowl, but things happen. Just keep being you, brother. Don't let this one game define who you are. We all know who you are. Keep being a star. Keep being the leader you are. Keep being the light in the room and just keep being you."
