Shohei Ohtani's Children's Book About Dog Decoy Showcased in Photo Preview
Just over two years after Decoy became a viral sensation for helping Shohei Ohtani celebrate his second MVP win, the dog is now the subject of a children's book written by the Los Angeles Dodgers superstar.
MLB's X account posted images of the book Decoy Saves Opening Day, along with a picture of the dog.

Per MLB.com's Theo DeRosa, the plot of the book involves Decoy throwing out the first pitch to Ohtani on Opening Day. However, the pup realizes that he left his lucky baseball at home and has to retrieve it.
The images posted by MLB do seem to give away the end, but it's comforting to know Decoy is successful in getting the ball he needs and throwing a strike to Ohtani.
Decoy has real-life experience with first pitches, having run out a ceremonial first pitch in August 2024 during Ohtani's debut season with the Dodgers.
Even though his father is the more famous member of the family, Decoy has been showered with accolades. He was even presented with the Most Valuable Dog Award during the BBWAA awards dinner this week.
Ohtani is credited as a co-author on the book, along with Michael Blank, and it was illustrated by Fanny Liem.
Harper Collins, which is publishing the book, noted that proceeds from the sales will go to support animal rescue organizations that Ohtani has partnered with.
Decoy Saves the Day will be released on Feb. 3.
