49ers' Juszczyk Says Electrical Substation Has Been 'Talking Point for Years' Amid Injury Concerns
Conspiracy theories about the large electrical substation near the San Francisco 49ers' practice facility and Levi's Stadium have reached the team's locker room.
"It's definitely been a talking point for years," fullback Kyle Juszczyk said to Margaret Fleming of Front Office Sports. "It's one of those things that it's just so hard to say because the science is not clear behind it. And I'm very much a science-driven person. And I want to see the numbers and the statistics."

In a viral thread on social media, one person attempted to argue that 49ers players have been susceptible to more soft-tissue injuries because of low-frequency electromagnetic fields coming out of the nearby substation.
General manager John Lynch confirmed earlier this month the organization will attempt to see whether the hypothesis has any merit:
A high volume of injuries to Niners players has been a regular trend for years. In 2025 alone, they lost defensive stars Nick Bosa and Fred Warner along with tight end George Kittle to season-ending injuries.
"I mean, is it a coincidence that we've led the NFL in injuries for the last, like, decade?" Juszczyk told Fleming. "I don't know, it very well could be. Because a lot of injuries simply come down to bad luck, bad timing, you're in a bad position. But there's a lot that goes into it. And if that may be some of it, I don't know. I am very curious. I really am. I want to see what someone who truly understands that field, what they have to say about it, and just be curious to know."
Having a convenient answer would be nice, and the substation theory would provide just that. To this point, however, there's nothing scientific to corroborate the claim.
Not to mention, the 49ers have practiced in Santa Clara dating back to 1988, while the substation goes back to 1993.
It's also worth asking what kind of remedies are even possible if there is any minute link. The Niners can't pick up Levi's Stadium and move it to a new municipality, and the city of Santa Clara can't simply shut down a major power station.
If nothing else, the 49ers' attempts to look into this could debunk it once and for all.
