Bill Polian's Son Calls Out Criticism of Former NFL Exec Over Bill Belichick HOF Snub, 'Not Right'

One result of Bill Belichick reportedly not being inducted as a first-ballot Hall of Famer was former Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts general manager Bill Polian facing plenty of criticism for his potential role in that development.

Yet Polian's son, Brian, who is the head football coach of John Carroll University, believes the criticism was unwarranted:

ESPN's Don Van Natta Jr. and Seth Wickersham first reported on Tuesday that Belichick fell short of the 40 out of 50 votes he needed to be a first-ballot induction. Included in that story was a source who said Polian told fellow voters he thought Belichick should have to "wait a year" as punishment for the Spygate scandal that happened with the New England Patriots.

Belichick and the Patriots were both fined for the scandal, and the team was also stripped of a first-round draft pick.

Polian told Van Natta and Wickersham that he did not tell voters Belichick should have to wait even though he heard others "float that idea." He also said he was 95 percent sure he voted for Belichick but couldn't completely remember.

However, he said on SiriusXM NFL Radio during a Wednesday appearance that he did vote for Belichick.

Still, the comments came after he faced plenty of ridicule and criticism from the initial report:

As for Belichick, he will undoubtedly be elected to the Hall of Fame at some point. After all, he reached nine Super Bowls and won six Lombardi Trophies during his time as the head coach of the Patriots.

He also won two Super Bowls as the defensive coordinator of the New York Giants.

Don Shula (347) is the only coach with more combined regular season and playoff victories than Belichick's 333, and he has the most conference championships and division titles for any coach in the Super Bowl era.

But he still has to wait to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
