Seahawks Complete 'Pope' Trend with Epic Win vs. Patriots in Super Bowl 60

Whereas some thought the Chicago Bears were blessed by Pope Leo XIV during the NFL playoffs, another team may have benefited more from the papal succession.

The Seattle Seahawks' official X account called it "divine timing" when it was pointed out in January they have reached the Super Bowl each of the last three times a new pope was selected:

The NFC champions went all the way with Sunday night's 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots, making them two out of three in connection with the trend.

If the Holy See has been writing the NFL script from Vatican City, it stopped short at dictating the actual champion.

The Seahawks hammered the Denver Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII to win their first NFL title. Before that, however, they came up short in Super Bowl XL, losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers 21-10.

Seattle's defense rose to the occasion in Super Bowl LX at Levi's Stadium. It sacked MVP runner-up Drake Maye six times and forced him to commit three turnovers. The Patriots didn't get onto the board until Mack Hollins' 35-yard touchdown catch with 12:27 left in the fourth quarter.

Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III set the tone on the other side, running for 135 yards on 27 carries en route to winning Super Bowl MVP.
