Golden Knights vs. Stars Scheduled at Cowboys' AT&T Stadium for 2027 NHL Stadium Series

The Vegas Golden Knights are headed to Texas in 2027 for their third outdoor game in franchise history.

The Golden Knights were announced Thursday as the Dallas Stars' opponent in the upcoming NHL Stadium Series game at the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium on Feb. 20, 2027.

The Stars were announced as a 2027 Stadium Series host back in November. The event will mark the first hockey game to take place at AT&T Stadium.

The Golden Knights previously played outdoors against the Colorado Avalanche at Lake Tahoe in 2021 and against the Seattle Kraken in Washington in 2024.

This NHL has only hosted one previous outdoor game in the state of Texas, when the 2020 Winter Classic took place on New Year's Day between the Stars and Nashville Predators.

The league's outdoor return to Texas comes will follow a season spent promoting outdoor hockey in Florida.

That included January's Winter Classic between the Florida Panthers and New York Rangers at the Miami Marlins' loanDepot Park, as well as the upcoming Stadium Series between the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Raymond James Stadium on Feb. 1.

The news comes hours before the Stars and Golden Knights drop the puck in Las Vegas for their first matchup of the season.

Those two teams will meet up twice more this season on March 10 and March 22 as both try to make it into the Western Conference playoff picture.

The NHL is hoping this matchup will be a game between two postseason contenders, given that the Knights made seven playoff appearances and won a Stanley Cup in their first eight years of existence as a franchise.

The Stars haven't won a championship since Ed Belfour and Mike Modano led them to a Cup in 1999, but they made it to the 2020 Stanley Cup Final and most recently qualified for three straight Western Conference Final appearances.

Two of those playoff runs involved clashes with the Golden Knights, whom the Stars defeated on their way to the 2020 championship series and lost to in the 2023 conference finals.

Both teams sit in the 2026 playoff picture as of Thursday, with the Stars in third place in the Central Division and the Golden Knights leading the Pacific.
