Terrell Owens Calls Out His Hall of Fame Snubs as Bill Belichick Voting Results Under Investigation

Joseph ZuckerJan 29, 2026

Hall of Fame wide receiver Terrell Owens used Bill Belichick's omission from the 2026 class to relitigate his own past issues with the Hall.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame issued a statement Wednesday underlining how it's prepared to act if a member of the 50-person Selection Committee, which snubbed Belichick, violated any rules.

Owens questioned on social media why him missing the cut in 2016 and 2017 didn't warrant the same response:

The five-time All-Pro was one of the most prolific pass-catchers in NFL history when he retired. He ranks ninth in receptions (1,078) and third in both yardage (15,934) and touchdowns (153).

Before the Hall of Fame's 2016 class was announced, ESPN's Jean-Jacques Taylor speculated that off-field considerations would hurt Owens' candidacy, however.

"He should be a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but the odds of that happening are slim because T.O. turned off folks with his constant complaints about not getting the ball and the perception that he wasn't a good teammate," Taylor wrote.

Owens finally got the call in 2018 but declined to attend his induction ceremony in Canton, Ohio.

"While I am incredibly appreciative of this opportunity, I have made the decision to publicly decline my invitation to attend the induction ceremony in Canton," he said at the time. "I have already shared this information with the Hall. After visiting Canton earlier this year, I came to the realization that I wish to celebrate what will be one of the most memorable days of my life, elsewhere. At a later date, I will announce where and when I will celebrate my induction."

Owens subsequently told TMZ Sports his decision was rooted in him not being a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

A decade later, that clearly remains a sore subject.
