John Harbaugh, Giants' Top OC Options After Todd Monken Reportedly Lands Browns HC Contract

Todd Monken won't be following John Harbaugh to the Big Apple.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday the Cleveland Browns are hiring the former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator as their next head coach.

Monken was linked with the New York Giants following Harbaugh's arrival. They spent three seasons together in Baltimore, so a reunion looked plausible.

With the 59-year-old now off the board, these three candidates make sense for the role.

Davis Webb, Broncos offensive passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach

Davis Webb only entered the NFL coaching ranks in 2023, yet he's already interviewing to be a head coach. The performance of Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix over the last two seasons has certainly been a strong endorsement for the team's QB coach.

It's impossible not to connect the dots with Webb's stock rising so quickly and Denver firing offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi on Tuesday. The 31-year-old is in line for a promotion, and he may not have to leave his current employer to get it.

The outside competition is also fierce. In addition to the Giants, Schefter reported the Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles have requested to interview Webb.

New York may as well make the effort because the worst thing he can do is say no.

Nathan Scheelhaase, Rams passing game coordinator

Nathan Scheelhaase wasted no time pivoting to a coaching career once he graduated from Illinois in 2014. He returned to his alma mater in 2015 as the running backs coach.

As a result, the 35-year-old has quite a bit of experience under his belt while being very young in coaching terms.

Like Webb, Scheelhaase gained traction as a head coach candidate. He had two interviews with the Browns before they settled on Monken, and he spoke with the Buffalo Bills prior to them elevating Joe Brady.

One concern with Harbaugh is that the 63-year-old may be a little set in his ways after coaching for 18 seasons in the NFL. A younger coordinator such as Scheelhaase is bound to bring some new ideas to the table.

Kliff Kingsbury, former Commmanders offensive coordinator

Kliff Kingsbury's stock has taken a hit after the Washington Commanders let him go. Their offense went backward in a big way, and that wasn't solely down to quarterback Jayden Daniels missing 10 games through injury. Daniels averaged 180.3 passing yards and had a 44.6 QBR in seven starts.

Still, Kingsbury has assembled a solid body of work. In his six years as a head coach or OC, his offenses have three top-10 finishes in yards. Daniels and Kyler Murray were also Pro Bowlers under his watch.

Pairing Kingsbury and Jaxson Dart together could help to bring out the best in the 2025 first-round pick.
