Shedeur Sanders' Future Hyped by NFL Fans After Todd Monken's Hire as Browns HC

NFL fans discussed the potential future of Shedeur Sanders as the Cleveland Browns' starting quarterback following a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter that the organization decided to hire Todd Monken as its new head coach Wednesday.

Given the success Monken had as offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens while working with superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson, several people expressed optimism regarding the Sanders-Monken pairing in posts on X:

Monken was arguably among the best and most experienced offensive minds available in this hiring cycle, having served as an OC collegiately at Oklahoma State and Georgia, and in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Browns and Ravens.

As Baltimore's OC over the past three seasons, Monken called plays for one of the most explosive offenses in football.

The Ravens ranked sixth in total offense and fourth in scoring offense in 2023, first in total offense and third in scoring offense in 2024, and 16th in total offense and 11th in scoring offense this season.

Baltimore's offensive drop-off in 2025 had plenty to do with the fact that Jackson missed four games due to injury, but he was at his best under Monken in 2023 and 2024.

In his first year under Monken, Jackson was NFL MVP and a First Team All-Pro in 2023. He was First Team All-Pro once again in 2024, and although he finished second in MVP voting behind Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, he had a career year as a passer, throwing for 4,172 yards, 41 touchdowns and just four interceptions.

Of course, there is no guarantee Monken will be able to get big-time production out of Sanders. In fact, there is no guarantee Sanders will be the starter next season.

Cleveland selected Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft out of Colorado, and after beginning as the No. 4 quarterback on the depth chart, he eventually worked his way into a starting role.

Sanders started the Browns' final seven games of the season, going 3-4 and completing 56.6 percent of his passes for 1,400 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions, while also rushing for 169 yards and one score.

Shedeur was even named an AFC Pro Bowl replacement for New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, who is set to play in the Super Bowl, although Sanders obviously didn't have Pro Bowl caliber production and still requires a ton of development.

In addition to Sanders, the Browns have 2025 third-round pick Dillon Gabriel and veteran Deshaun Watson under contract for next season at quarterback. Watson missed all of 2025 due to a torn Achilles.

Cleveland also has the No. 6 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft, so it is possible they could look to select a potential franchise quarterback.

However, if Sanders wins the starting job, Monken's arrival could be a hugely positive development for his career, as Monken has shown a penchant for elevating the quarterbacks he has coached.
