Dan Henderson vs. Vitor Belfort Trilogy Fight Signed for Sao Paulo in November
Dan Henderson and Vitor Belfort will run it back. The two MMA veterans will clash in November in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
UFC Fight Night 78 will be the November 7 event. Henderson confirmed the fight via Twitter:
The two first met at Pride 32 in 2006. Henderson grabbed a unanimous-decision victory over the fast and powerful striker. The victory helped elevate Henderson to a 205-pound title tilt he would win over Wanderlei Silva.
A lot of time passed before their rematch. They headlined UFC Fight Night 32 in 2013, and Belfort got his revenge. In just 77 seconds, Belfort blasted Henderson with a head kick that knocked him out.
Since that fight, Henderson is 2-2. After back-to-back losses to Daniel Cormier and Gegard Mousasi, there were questions about whether Henderson had anything left in the tank. He proved that he is not quite done with a knockout over Tim Boetsch in June.
Belfort waited more than a year for a title shot after beating Henderson, and it didn't go well. Chris Weidman thumped him in less than three minutes to retain the middleweight championship.
The big question surrounding the Belfort-Henderson trilogy fight is the weight at which it will happen. Both men are ranked at 185 pounds, but the two-division stars met at 205 in both of their previous meetings. As neither fighter is in immediate contention at either weight, they could fight in either division. There is no word on which division that will be.
Per TheMMAReport.com's Jason Floyd, Dana White confirmed the Sao Paulo fight:
The fight will headline the UFC Fight Night 78 event and be five rounds.
