Freddy Peralta Addresses Potential Mets Contract Extension After Trade from Brewers

Paul KasabianJan 27, 2026

The New York Mets introduced new starting pitcher Freddy Peralta via Zoom on Tuesday, and the impending 2027 free agent was asked about the possibility of a contract extension with the team. He provided this response.

The Mets added Peralta and right-handed pitcher Tobias Myers via trade on Jan. 21 from the Milwaukee Brewers for a pair of star prospects in outfielder Jett Williams and starting pitcher Brandon Sproat.

Peralta, who turns 30 years old on June 4, is entering the final season of a five-year, $15.5 million contract extension.

The two-time All-Star has played all eight of his MLB seasons with the Brewers. He just enjoyed his best season in Milwaukee, leading the National League with 17 victories while posting a career-best 2.70 ERA (1.08 WHIP). Peralta also struck out 204 batters in 33 starts and finished fifth in the NL Cy Young race.

Peralta, who has struck out at least 200 batters in each of his past three seasons, is slated to lead the Mets' rotation in 2026.

New York would undoubtedly love to see Peralta in town for the foreseeable future, especially considering the prospect cost it took to land him in Queens. The Mets don't want to give up Sproat and Williams for a one-year rental.

Time will tell if Peralta does stay with the Mets, and based on his remarks, his experience in town and the organization will play a big part in his decision.

In the meantime, Peralta is clearly excited to play for the Mets, a team he used to root for.

Peralta and the Mets begin the season on Thursday, March 26 at home versus the Pittsburgh Pirates.
