Chiefs' Andy Reid Endorses Matt Nagy for HC Job, Explains OC Switch to Eric Bieniemy

Andrew PetersJan 26, 2026

Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy has interviewed with a handful of teams during this year's coaching cycle, but has yet to land a new gig.

He got an endorsement from Chiefs head coach Andy Reid on Monday.

"He deserves to have a head coaching job," Reid told reporters.

Nagy has interviewed with the Tennessee Titans, Baltimore Ravens, Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders. The Ravens and Titans have filled their vacancies, though the Cardinals and Raiders are still in the hiring process.

With Nagy on his way out, the Chiefs hired Eric Bieniemy to be their new offensive coordinator. Bieniemy, who was Kansas City's offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2022, was the Chicago Bears running backs coach in 2025.

"As a unit, as an organization, I think everybody's fired up to see that we're able to replace a great guy with another great guy," Reid said.

Reid described some of the differences between his new and former offensive coordinators, calling it "a different flavor."

"EB is gonna be very direct with the players, very direct with the coaches," Reid said of his new offensive coordinator. "It's a different flavor."

The Chiefs are hoping for an offensive resurgence in 2026, though that task will be made significantly harder with star quarterback Patrick Mahomes set to miss part of the season due to a torn ACL.
