The NHL's best are kicking back for another few weeks before the grind of another season begins. For fans, these are the dog days, where news is at a crawl and conversations tend to wander into different areas of the game.

One conversation best discussed in summer: the Hall of Fame. It's difficult to make a case during the year, as reputations are being built and players past their prime are contributing to career stats that may improve their case. Every team has a candidate; some have more than one.

Here is a team-by-team look at every NHL franchise's likely Hall of Fame player.

Anaheim Ducks: Corey Perry

1 of 30

    Jae C. Hong/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Corey Perry is building a solid Hall-of-Fame resume—he has won a Hart Trophy, a Richard Trophy and was a big part of the Anaheim Ducks' Stanley Cup win in 2007. His career numbers are beginning to gather steam—he's four healthy seasons from 1,000 games—and the team success enjoyed during his time in Anaheim has been substantial.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Ryan Getzlaf is now 30 but remains an impact player. A lot of the success enjoyed by Anaheim in the last decade has involved both Getzlaf and Perry.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? There could be two; in fact, Perry and Getzlaf could go in the same day. The key for both will be continued team success and production. Any individual awards added—especially for Getzlaf—will help the cause immensely.

Arizona Coyotes: Shane Doan

2 of 30

    Ross D. Franklin/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Shane Doan has been the face of the Coyotes franchise since they arrived in Arizona. Although the team has enjoyed little success, Doan's career value is enough to get him into the conversation. He's coming up on 1,400 NHL games and 900 points, two impressive milestones. Doan's King Clancy Award also contributes to his chances.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Oliver Ekman-Larsson is just getting started—he's five years into his career—but there's an impressive foundation already, and if he can find an extra gear for his peak years and have sustained longevity, a Hall of Fame career is possible.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Doan has a real chance to make the Hall because of his career value. The fact he's been such a solid citizen, the face of a franchise troubled by outside forces, may eventually be enough to get him in. If he can finish off some of those career totals with high numbers, it will help the cause.

Boston Bruins: Zdeno Chara

3 of 30

    Nick Wass/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Zdeno Chara is a towering figure over this era of NHL hockey in more ways than one. An impact player for over a decade—his peak seasons stretch over two teams and a lot of the game's history—his one Norris Trophy as the league's best defenseman doesn't come close to reflecting his impact.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Patrice Bergeron is an elite two-way center, the type of player who doesn't ordinarily get a lot of attention from the Hall of Fame. His impact has been so strong—including three Selke Trophy nods as top defensive forward—Bergeron is regarded as one of the best players of this type.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Chara is already a strong candidate for the Hall, and Bergeron isn't far behind. The Boston Bruins of this era are a very famous team, and it's possible both men will eventually make it.

Buffalo Sabres: Brian Gionta

4 of 30

    LM Otero/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Brian Gionta once scored 48 goals in a season, won a Stanley Cup and has survived the rigors of the NHL for over a dozen seasons. In the year he scored 48 goals, he finished inside the top 15 overall in voting for the Hart Memorial Trophy

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Ryan O'Reilly hasn't technically played for the Buffalo Sabres, but he is building a Hall-of-Fame resume. A splendid two-way forward, he won the Lady Byng Trophy in 2013-14. Most of the Buffalo roster is very young, but it's probably wise to pay close attention to Jack Eichel even though he's a rookie in 2015-16—chances are he'll begin building a resume from opening night.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Gionta's career has been impressive but falls short of Hall of Fame calibre. Players like O'Reilly and Evander Kane are doing some of the things that require induction but have much work to do in order to get into the conversation. The Sabres have no serious candidates at this time.

Calgary Flames: Mark Giordano

5 of 30

    Gene J. Puskar/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: The Calgary Flames are a young, emerging team so have no obvious options for top candidate. Mark Giordano is one of the best defensemen in the game and is playing tremendous hockey into his 30s.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Jiri Hudler has been doing some of the things we associate with a Hall of Fame player but like Giordano is a long way from being bona fide. Some of the Flames younger players—specifically Sean Monahan—are making great early progress and could be in the conversation by the end of the decade.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Calgary has no clear Hall of Fame candidate at this time. The Jarome Iginla era is gone, and the new impact players have just arrived.

Carolina Hurricanes: Eric Staal

6 of 30

    Tom Mihalek/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: The Carolina Hurricanes' Eric Staal has been building a Hall-of-Fame resume for 11 seasons. Although he has never won an individual award, the Hurricanes won a Stanley Cup that Staal was a big part of in 2006. Staal's career numbers are also impressive, as he has scored 742 points in 846 games despite his relative youth—he turns 31 in October.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Cam Ward built most of his Hall resume as a rookie, back in 2006 when he won the Conn Smythe Trophy in leading Carolina to the Stanley Cup. Since then, he has struggled and would have to have a long run of success to get back into contention.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? We're a long way from knowing about Eric Staal, but those career numbers are impressive for his age. If he can post good offensive numbers for another five seasons, he'll be a viable candidate.

Chicago Blackhawks: Jonathan Toews

7 of 30

    John Locher/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: The Chicago Blackhawks have a ridiculous number of players trending as potential Hall-of-Famers. Jonathan Toews has three Stanley Cups, a Conn Smythe and Selke Trophy to his credit, and he just turned 27. Toews is on track to land in the Hall's inner circle of the very best ever to play the game.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? The 'Hawks have an embarrassment of riches in regard to Hall qualifications. Marian Hossa's career numbers are outstanding, owing mostly to his incredible consistency over a number of years. Patrick Kane has a Calder Trophy, a Conn Smythe Trophy and a share in three Stanley Cup victories. Duncan Keith has two Norris Trophy wins, a Conn Smythe Trophy and a share in those same championships.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? The only question in Chicago is how many of these men get into the Hall. Hossa is probably a lock for induction now, with Toews and Kane so close it's probably impossible for them to miss no matter what happens from here. Duncan Keith's resume was advanced tremendously by his performance en route to the 2015 Stanley Cup, and it's a good guess all four men will make it.

Colorado Avalanche: Jarome Iginla

8 of 30

    Jack Dempsey/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Jarome Iginla is already a bona fide Hall of Fame candidate. His most impressive milestone? He currently ranks No. 19 among all-time goal scorers, No. 2 among active players.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Alex Tanguay has been a consistent offensive player over a long period of time. His career numbers include more than 1,000 games, over 800 points and a Stanley Cup.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? If he retired tomorrow, Jarome Iginla would have more than enough traction to make the Hall of Fame. He should be a first-ballot inductee, and it will be interesting to see how his candidacy is handled when he does retire. Tanguay's numbers are impressive, but he would have to play for several more seasons at a high level to get consideration.

Columbus Blue Jackets: Sergei Bobrovsky

9 of 30

    Jay LaPrete/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Sergei Bobrovsky has been in the NHL only five seasons and has had considerable success. Bobrovsky won a Vezina Trophy with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2012-13. He finished No. 5 in Hart Trophy voting in the same year.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Scott Hartnell hasn't won any major awards or a Stanley Cup, but at 32 his career numbers are piling up. At over 1,000 games and almost 600 points, he could receive some votes if he played deep into his 30s.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? In the case of Bobrovsky, we're years from knowing. Goalies are wildly unpredictable, but Bobrovsky has the foundation of a career that could eventually garner entry. Hartnell's style of play suggests his career will end before his all-time numbers merit mention.

Dallas Stars: Jason Spezza

10 of 30

    Jae C. Hong/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Jason Spezza is a consistent offensive player who has posted several impressive seasons. He has scored over 80 points four times and finished No. 6 in 2011-12 Hart Trophy voting.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn are young guns who have been among the league leaders offensively in recent seasons. Benn won the 2014-15 Art Ross Trophy, something associated with Hall of Fame forwards. Patrick Sharp has three Stanley Cup victories and was a member of the most famous team of this era.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? It's difficult to identify the most likely candidate among Dallas Stars players. Benn and Seguin have performed well early, but Spezza has been consistently excellent over many years. None of the players listed is a clear Hall of Fame selection, so all have some ground to travel in order to qualify.

Detroit Red Wings: Pavel Datsyuk

11 of 30

    Tom Mihalek/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings is already qualified for Hockey's Hall of Fame. His storied career includes seven major awards, two Stanley Cup victories and millions of fans worldwide who appreciate his exceptional two-way talents.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Henrik Zetterberg is also a lock for the Hall at this time. His career peak value qualifies him, and his all-time numbers should push him even higher in terms of qualifications. Brad Richards also deserves consideration.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Detroit has two men already qualified for the Hall of Fame. Several young players such as Gustav Nyquist and Tomas Tatar are building solid foundations, and we'll see those men emerge as bona fide candidates in the future.

Edmonton Oilers: Taylor Hall

12 of 30

    Lynne Sladky/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: The Edmonton Oilers are a team full of young guns, with the leader being Taylor Hall. Although he's only five years into his career, Hall has exceeded 80 points once and twice finished in the league's top 10 in points per game.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Edmonton boasts several brilliant youngsters, including Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle. Like Hall, none are substantial candidates at this time and have many miles to go.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? It's simply too soon to know for this generation of Edmonton Oilers. Connor McDavid will be added to the plethora of gifted youngsters this fall and could give everyone a boost.

Florida Panthers: Jaromir Jagr

13 of 30

    Lynne Sladky/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: The Florida Panthers' Jaromir Jagr was probably qualified a decade ago. The list of accomplishments covers two Stanley Cups, nine major awards and being among the leaders in several all-time categories. As an example, Jagr ranks No. 5 all-time in goals and could move into third place by the end of the 2015-16 season.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Roberto Luongo has played at a high level for a long time, and despite not winning a Stanley Cup or a major award has built a quality resume. Brian Campbell has enjoyed a long and productive career and is also worthy of consideration.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? The moment he's eligible, Jaromir Jagr will get into the Hall of Fame. Luongo and Campbell continue to build their case and could eventually join Jagr.

Los Angeles Kings: Marian Gaborik

14 of 30

    Jae C. Hong/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: The Los Angeles Kings employ several quality players working toward Hall of Fame qualifications. Leading the way is veteran Marian Gaborik, whose performance in the 2014 playoffs and career numbers have him in the conversation.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Anze Kopitar, Jonathan Quick, Jeff Carter and Drew Doughty are all progressing on a career path that could see them reach the Hall. Newcomer Milan Lucic also warrants a mention.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? The Los Angeles Kings offer a very difficult Hall of Fame examination. It's a fair bet that Kopitar, Doughty and Quick will end up with the strongest credentials for the Hall, but it's unclear at this point which player will emerge as the favorite. With that understood, Gaborik is the current leader, but Kopitar could catch up to him by this time next summer.

Minnesota Wild: Zach Parise

15 of 30

    Ann Heisenfelt/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Zach Parise has several impressive scoring seasons, including a 45-goal year in 2008-09. If he continues on his current pace, Parise's career goals total will get him consideration.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Ryan Suter has no major awards yet but did finish second in 2012-13 Norris Trophy voting. If he can play at his current level for several more seasons, the weight of his career contributions should put him on the radar.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? There's much to be written on both men, and should the Minnesota Wild win the Stanley Cup in the next few years their causes would be improved greatly. Parise's scoring accomplishments catch the eye and, if he can post more seasons of 35 goals or more well into his 30s, he'll probably get in.

Montreal Canadiens: Carey Price

16 of 30

    Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens had a massive year. He won the Hart Trophy, Vezina Trophy, Jennings Trophy and Ted Lindsay Award for his efforts in the 2014-15 season. He is building an impressive resume in the NHL and international play, where he led Canada to the Olympic gold medal in 2014.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? P.K. Subban is similar to Price in that he's a young player building a strong early case. Veterans Andrei Markov and Sergei Gonchar are closing their careers and have most of their story written but are worth a mention.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Price is a very famous goaltender early in his career and, despite the unpredictability of the position, there's a very good chance he'll make it from his current standing. Subban has miles to go but has done many of the things we associate with Hall of Fame players. Gonchar's career numbers are worthy of consideration, and he may in fact make the Hall eventually. It is unlikely Markov will enter the Hall despite an impressive career.

Nashville Predators: Shea Weber

17 of 30

    Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Shea Weber is a dominant NHL defender and has a decade-long track record to show for it. Although he hasn't won a major award, he's been on the All-Star team twice during his career.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Pekka Rinne has been an NHL starter for seven years and has over 200 wins during that period. His .919 career save percentage is a quality statistic, and he's accomplished some of the things we associate with Hall of Fame goalies.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? If Weber can sustain his current level of success for another few seasons, he'll be a bona fide candidate. It's less certain with Rinne, although his career numbers have been impressive for the first seven years.

New Jersey Devils: Patrik Elias

18 of 30

    Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Patrik Elias of the New Jersey Devils is closing a quality career. His consistent excellence over a long span helped his team to two Stanley Cups and close to a third championship.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Mike Cammalleri has enjoyed impressive scoring seasons, including over 30 goals twice and 20 goals many times. He's been a good player over a long period, and his career statistics are piling up.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Elias may have to wait a little while for his induction, but he's a lock based on his immense career value. Cammalleri has enjoyed a quality career but falls short of the Hall doors.

New York Islanders: John Tavares

19 of 30

    Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: John Tavares of the New York Islanders is making inroads on a Hall of Fame career. Among his early accomplishments are third-place finishes for the Hart Trophy in 2013 and 2015

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Frans Nielsen is a completely under-the-radar option but is in fact one of the best two-way forwards in the game. His performance in the annual Selke Trophy voting reflects the view on him as a player.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Both men are a long way from being qualified but are substantial talents with a story to tell. Islanders fans are going to have a lot of fun over the rest of this decade and beyond.

New York Rangers: Henrik Lundqvist

20 of 30

    Frank Franklin/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Henrik Lundqvist is an impact goalie with a Vezina Trophy and a long track record of success on his side. His playoff performances over the last four seasons have been exceptional, and that's something that gets noticed when it comes time for voting—players on famous teams traditionally do well.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Rick Nash has posted some of the finest scoring seasons in recent memory, including leading the league with 41 goals in 2003-04. He's has 378 goals at age 31, meaning his final total should be a very big number. Dan Boyle has been a very good defenseman for a long time, and his career value will get him noticed.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? All three of these men have a good chance to make the Hall of Fame. If the Rangers win a Stanley Cup with this trio playing major roles, they might end up going in together.

Ottawa Senators: Erik Karlsson

21 of 30

    Marc DesRosiers-USA TODAY Sports

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators is 25 and in a hurry to get to the Hall of Fame. He has two Norris Trophy wins and is posting enormous point totals for a defenseman.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Bobby Ryan had four 30-goal seasons at the beginning of his career, laying a solid foundation for future consideration. His performance since then has faded, but he has some things in common with Hall of Fame players.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Karlsson has more than a decade to go before all is written, but his resume is pristine in the early portion of his career. Ryan had a solid early run but has lost the momentum and won't get close if he can't get it back.

Philadelphia Flyers: Vincent Lecavalier

22 of 30

    Tom Mihalek/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Vincent Lecavalier of the Philadelphia Flyers has been famous since his rookie season, and he picked up a Richard Trophy and King Clancy Memorial Trophy along the way. His career totals—including 931 points—and a Stanley Cup ring help his chances.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Claude Giroux is just getting started, but his career projection suggests he may have a chance. His early performances in Hart Trophy voting—he has finished in the top five twice—are in indication of the quality of his play.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Lecavalier was a famous player on a famous team when the Tampa Bay Lightning were at the top. He'll need to finish off those career numbers but has a chance to make it. Giroux has a long way to go, but he's one of the best young players in the game. There's a good chance he'll collect some individual awards, and his numbers should help him as his career moves into the latter stages.

Pittsburgh Penguins: Sidney Crosby

23 of 30

    Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Sidney Crosby turned 28 on August 7, and the Pittsburgh Penguins star is a mortal lock for the Hall of Fame. One of the criteria NHL voters appear to look for is years spent as the best player in the game. Crosby's eight awards and two-way dominance stand out for any observer.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Evgeni Malkin has six major awards, was part of the same Stanley Cup-winning team as Crosby and should have exceptional career numbers by the time he's finished playing.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Crosby is an inner-circle Hall of Fame player the instant he retires—and that's probably a decade away. Malkin is already an extremely strong candidate, and his career value should be immense on the day he retires. Both men will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

San Jose Sharks: Joe Thornton

24 of 30

    Marcio Jose Sanchez/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Joe Thornton has a strong case for hockey's Hall based on peak and career value. He won the Hart Trophy and Art Ross Trophy in 2005-06 and led the league in assists three years in a row beginning that same year.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Patrick Marleau has been an effective scorer over a long career and should get strong consideration for the Hall when he becomes eligible.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Both men will have to overcome the fact their team didn't win the Stanley Cup, but Thornton should find enshrinement soon after retirement. Marleau will take longer, but he has an impressive resume.

St. Louis Blues: Paul Stastny

25 of 30

    Jeff Roberson/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: The St. Louis Blues are loaded with talent but have no strong Hall of Fame candidates. Perhaps the most qualified is Paul Stastny, who has posted some impressive point totals so far in his career.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Alex Pietrangelo is building a nice resume, including finishing inside the top five in Norris Trophy voting twice so far in his young career.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? St. Louis has a very good team but no obvious candidate who is both an established veteran and building impressive career totals. Any number of players could do it, but as of now Blues fans will have to be on the lookout for someone to emerge from a group of very talented men.

Tampa Bay Lightning: Steven Stamkos

26 of 30

    Charles Rex Arbogast/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning has been very impressive in gathering ammunition for his Hall of Fame case. In just six seasons, he's won the Richard Trophy twice and accumulated 276 career goals.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? The Lightning have no one player who could be included in the conversation, although Victor Hedman is beginning to emerge as an impact player.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Tampa Bay is a young team, and we'll see more players emerge as time rolls along. Stamkos is the obvious choice as best candidate, but things can change in a hurry.

Toronto Maple Leafs: Dion Phaneuf

27 of 30

    Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Dion Phaneuf of the Toronto Maple Leafs has some qualifications we associate with the Hall of Fame. He's received significant consideration for the Norris Trophy in several of his seasons, and his career numbers—750 games, 400 points—are impressive.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? The Leafs have plenty of young and talented players, but since trading Phil Kessel lack a marquee player in his prime.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Toronto is unlikely to have a player from its current roster make the Hall, but some of those kids bubbling under in the minors are almost ready to take the stage.

Vancouver Canucks: Daniel and Henrik Sedin

28 of 30

    Bill Kostroun/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: The Vancouver Canucks' Sedin twins are tremendous players and future Hall of Fame candidates. Henrik Sedin has a Hart Trophy and an Art Ross Trophy, while Daniel Sedin has a Ted Lindsay Award and an Art Ross Trophy. Both have outstanding career numbers.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Ryan Miller has a Vezina Trophy and quality career numbers, as well as an impressive international resume.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? All three of these men could make it to the Hall of Fame. The Sedins are a good bet to make it if they can extend their careers for a few more years and maintain current quality.

Washington Capitals: Alexander Ovechkin

29 of 30

    Frank Franklin II/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far:  Alexander Ovechkin is wildly overqualified for the Hockey Hall of Fame. The fabulous Russian has 13 major awards, including three Hart Trophy wins. He's won the Richard Trophy so often the NHL really should think about changing the name of the award.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Justin Williams is a famous role player who lives for Game 7 opportunities. He won't make the Hall, but he's won a Conn Smythe Trophy and has had a fine career.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Alex Ovechkin is a Hall of Fame hockey player today. He will go in when he retires—that may not happen until 2030, but it's going to happen.

Winnipeg Jets: Dustin Byfuglien

30 of 30

    Carlos Osorio/Associated Press

The Hall of Fame Resume—So Far: Dustin Byfuglien of the Winnipeg Jets is one of the most unique players in the game. He's received Norris Trophy consideration in four of the last five seasons and may be a better forward than defenseman.

Is There Anyone Else on the Team Trending? Andrew Ladd has some of the things we associate with Hall of Fame players on his resume; Ladd's Stanley Cup ring and leadership are worthy of mention.

Is There a Hall of Fame Induction in the Future? Neither player is a serious candidate at this time, but a strong performance in their 30s could put both in the conversation.
