Brett Favre Says Drake Maye, Vrabel Can Top Tom Brady, Bill Belichick in Patriots History

Even the biggest New England Patriots fans would likely hesitate before suggesting the Drake Maye and Mike Vrabel combination can reach the same sustained level of success as Tom Brady and Bill Belichick did with the AFC East team.

But Brett Favre doesn't see any such ceiling.

"They're in the shadow, but for how long?" Favre said during an interview with TMZ Sports (1:32 mark).

"If they continue on this pace, they may write their own record books. And honestly, I don't see why they can't. Barring injury or something catastrophic on the team, I don't see why they don't progress better and better each year."

Maye and Vrabel have been excellent this season, as the latter could take home Coach of the Year while the former has been part of the MVP discussion during what is just his second year in the league.

Still, Brady and Belichick won six Super Bowls together during their time with the Patriots. They built a modern-day dynasty and are still considered the gold standard for a quarterback and coach combination.

Brady already has a statue outside of Gillette Stadium, and Patriots CEO Robert Kraft revealed plans to build a Belichick one as well.

For as excellent as Maye and Vrabel have been while turning around a team that went 4-13 last season, they have a long way to go to even be close to Brady and Belichick in terms of accomplishments.

They can take a step in that direction Sunday, though, when they face the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game.

A victory would mean Vrabel, who won three Super Bowls as a player in New England under Belichick, reaching the Super Bowl in his first season as New England's head coach and Maye reaching that stage in just his second year in the league.

It would be quite the start as they attempt to build their own legacies as a quarterback-coach combination.
