Drew McIntyre Takes Out Cody Rhodes, Jacob Fatu at WWE SNME as Match Ends in No Contest

Drew McIntyre destroyed both Cody Rhodes and Jacob Fatu to end a massive brawl at WWE Saturday Night's Main Event in Montreal before the match ever started.

The stage was set for Saturday's bout on the Jan. 9 episode of SmackDown in Germany when Fatu interfered during a WWE Championship match between Rhodes and Drew McIntyre.

Rhodes and McIntyre did battle in a Three Stages of Hell match that came down to a steel cage match. When McIntyre was about to escape the cage and win the title, Fatu showed up and prevented him from exiting.

While Fatu and McIntyre were battling it out, Cody got involved, which prompted Fatu to then focus his attention on The American Nightmare.

McIntyre took advantage of the distraction by leaving through the cage door while Fatu and Rhodes were engaged in fisticuffs, resulting in The Scottish Warrior becoming the new WWE champion.

Before that episode of SmackDown, Fatu had not been seen on WWE programming in nearly three months due to being on the receiving end of a backstage attack on the Oct. 17 edition of SmackDown.

The Samoan Werewolf was supposed to face McIntyre in a WWE Championship No. 1 contender's match on that show, but before making his entrance, Fatu was shown laid out backstage, next to a pool of his own blood and teeth.

Rhodes immediately blamed McIntyre for the attack and challenged Drew to an impromptu match, which ended in a disqualification.

While most assumed McIntyre was responsible for the attack on McIntyre, there were also some whispers that Rhodes could have been the mystery attacker, adding even more tension to the rivalry between him and Fatu.

McIntyre being the reason that Rhodes and Fatu's brawl finally ended signals the potential for a triple threat match after McIntyre defends the championship against Sami Zayn at the Royal Rumble.
