Vernon Hargreaves III Injury: Updates on Florida Star's Knee and Return

Vernon Hargreaves III missed Florida's season opener vs. East Carolina with a knee injury and is probable for the team's second game against Kentucky, according to Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel.

Hargreaves III Returns to Practice

Nick De La Torre of Gator Country passed along a photo of Hargreaves at practice:

Florida announced Hargreaves picked up the issue during practice on Sept. 10. Wilson played in 12 games as a true freshman.

Over the past couple of years, Hargreaves has grown into one of Florida's most important defensive players. He intercepted three passes in both his freshman and sophomore seasons. He also led the SEC in pass breakups (13) in 2014.     

Hargreaves is the kind of defensive back who indirectly impacts a game when he isn't directly impacting it. Opposing quarterbacks shy away from throwing toward his side of the field to avoid courting disaster.

Losing Hargreaves is a blow to the Gators secondary and the defense as a whole.

His absence didn't keep the Gators from beating the East Carolina Pirates on Saturday, but the team will certainly need him when SEC play begins next week against the Kentucky Wildcats.
