Scoot Scores 0 in Historic Loss
There was a point in the match when one fan in the stands shouted, "I believe in you Hailey." This prompted another person to respond, "No one else does."
Baptiste was making her third appearance as a singles competitor in the Australian Open. The 24-year-old defeated Taylor Townsend and Storm Hunter in the first two rounds to set up a match with Gauff.
After taking the first set 6-3, Baptiste dropped the final two sets against the third-seeded Gauff.
Despite the loss, Baptiste's run to the third round marks her best result at the Australian Open. Gauff will take on Karolína Muchová in the fourth round on Saturday.
