Mets Post 'Avengers' Meme After Freddy Peralta, Luis Robert Jr. Trades, Bo Bichette Contract

Adam WellsJan 22, 2026

After months of offseason panic coming from Queens, the New York Mets are feeling themselves right now by capping off a week of notable moves with the acquisition of Freddy Peralta in a trade with the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday.

With Peralta joining Bo Bichette and Luis Robert Jr. as part of the recent spending spree, the Mets posted an Avengers meme to hype up their new additions.

The anxiety from Mets fans reached its apex on Jan. 15 when Kyle Tucker, who had long been viewed as one their primary targets in free agency, agreed to a four-year, $240 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Tucker's decision came after Mets owner Steve Cohen stoked the flames by making some cryptic posts on social media.

The Mets were able to quickly pivot to Bichette, even though he hadn't been publicly linked to them at any point prior to agreeing to a three-year, $126 million contract.

As The Athletic's Will Sammon and Tim Britton noted after the deal came together, the Mets "wanted a star" and had some talks with his camp back at the GM meetings in November before really picking things up last week while waiting for Tucker.

New York didn't rest on its laurels after signing Bichette by acquiring Robert from the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday to fill its void in center field.

The deal for Peralta cost the Mets prospects Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams, who were among the top five players in their farm system. But the right-handed Peralta also fills a huge void because the Mets' rotation was set to be anchored by 23-year-old rookie Nolan McLean.

These three moves put together make the Mets look much more formidable on paper than they did seven days ago. There are still plenty of questions about how this group will come together, but the pieces are in place for them to be able to contend with the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves as the best team in the NL East.
