Australian Open 2026 Results, Winners, Losers and Highlights from Thursday's Bracket

Fourteen Americans, seven men and seven women, are still alive heading into the third round of the 2026 Australian Open.

Ben Shelton, Taylor Fritz, Jessica Pegula, Amanda Anisimova and Madison Keys all won in straight sets on Thursday to add to the robust collection of third-rounders.

Those five players and Coco Gauff, who won on Wednesday, have combined to lose a single set through two rounds. They are the six top-10 seeds from the United States at the season's first major.

Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek were among the straight-set winners on Thursday as well.

There have been a few upsets, but through two rounds, all of the heavy favorites to win in Melbourne have won.

Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz had relatively easy wins on Thursday.

Shelton had the easier victory of the two, as he cruised past Australian qualifier Dane Sweeny.

Fritz needed a third-set tiebreak to finish off his win over Vit Kopriva.

Fritz's next opponent, Stan Wawrinka, delivered an epic moment with a five-set win over Arthur Gea.

If chalk holds, like it has for the first two rounds, Fritz would face Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals and Shelton would take on Jannik Sinner in the final eight.

A few Americans are trying to upset what we expect to happen. Sinner's next opponent is Elliot Spizzirri and Ethan Quinn are the two unseeded American men in the third round.

Jessica Pegula had the best showing of the three top-10 American women in action on Thursday.

The No. 6 seed lost just two games in her straight-set triumph over fellow American McCartney Kessler.

Madison Keys had a bit of a tougher time in her 6-1, 7-5 win over Ashlyn Krueger, but she was not in any danger of losing

Amanda Anisimova faced the biggest challenge of the three Americans, as she battled to a two-set win over Katerina Siniakova. The two players combined for 67 unforced errors. Anisimova had 35 unforced errors and eight double faults, but she found a way to pull out the victory.

Pegula and Keys are one win each away from facing each other in the fourth round. The winner of that potential match could face Anisimova in the quarterfinals.

Iga Swiatek also resides on bottom half of the women's singles bracket. She picked up her second-straight two-set win. She could face Naomi Osaka in the fourth round.

There was one notable upset on Thursday, as No. 10 seed Belinda Bencic was knocked out by Czech qualifier Nikola Bartunkova.
