Zac Robinson, Bucs Reportedly Finalizing OC Contract, Baker Mayfield Made 'Big Push' for Hire

Scott PolacekJan 22, 2026

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' staff for the 2026 season is reportedly starting to come together.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Thursday that Tampa Bay will hire former Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson for the same position following "a big push from Baker Mayfield" to do so.

What's more, the Buccaneers are expected to include senior offensive assistant Ken Zampese and passing game coordinator TJ Yates on the staff.

While Tampa Bay decided to keep head coach Todd Bowles, it underwent quite the coaching overhaul this offseason when it fired offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard, special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey, quarterbacks coach Thad Lewis, defensive line coach Charlie Strong and cornerbacks coach Kevin Ross.

As for Robinson, he was available because the Falcons did not bring him back after they fired head coach Raheem Morris.

Offensive coordinator changes are nothing new for the Buccaneers or quarterback Baker Mayfield.

Byron Leftwich was the OC in 2022, Dave Canales was the OC in 2023, Liam Coen was the OC in 2024 and Grizzard held the position this past season. That means Robinson will be Tampa Bay's fifth OC in five seasons and Mayfield's fourth in four seasons with the team.

Still, it is a move Mayfield reportedly wanted after Robinson spent two seasons as the OC for Atlanta.

The Falcons were sixth in the league in yards and 13th in scoring during his first season in 2024 but fell to 14th in yards and 24th in scoring in 2025. Yet quarterback Michael Penix Jr. suffered an ACL injury during the 2025 campaign, which forced the team to turn back toward Kirk Cousins.

Robinson was previously an offensive assistant for the Los Angeles Rams for five seasons from 2019 through 2023 during a span that included three playoff appearances and a Super Bowl title.

Now he will try to bring one of those Lombardi Trophies to Tampa Bay as he works with Mayfield and the rest of the offense in an NFC South division he is quite familiar with from his time in Atlanta.
