Rams' Davante Adams Explains Why Reaching Super Bowl Feels Like 'Mythical Thing' to Him

Scott PolacekJan 21, 2026

Few people know what it is like to reach the NFC Championship Game better than Davante Adams.

But he doesn't know what it's like to take the next step.

"Just having been here so many times and understanding exactly what it takes to get where we're ultimately trying to go," Adams said Wednesday, per ESPN's Sarah Barshop. "It's obviously exciting to achieve the minor goals along the way that you ultimately need to do to get where you want to be, but yeah, [getting to a Super Bowl] just feels like almost like a mythical thing to me at this point.

"You do everything you can to get there. It's been so hard, and [I've] been working so hard at it. So we're close. We just got to finish it off."

Adams reached the NFC Championship Game four times during his tenure with the Green Bay Packers only to lose all of those contests.

The 2014, 2016, 2019 and 2020 Packers all lost one step shy of the Super Bowl, and the team's singular appearance on the sport's biggest stage during Aaron Rodgers' 18 years came before Adams was on the roster during the 2010 campaign.

Sunday will mark Adams' fifth chance to reach the Super Bowl with just one win when his Los Angeles Rams take on the Seattle Seahawks. It will be in a familiar setting, as the Packers' 2014 campaign came to an end in Seattle during the NFC Championship Game.

"It's tough not to think about that one," Adams said. "A loss like that will last a long time. And we've got an opportunity to change that now."

At this point, Adams is a six-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro selection with six seasons of more than 1,000 receiving yards on his resume. The only thing truly missing is a Lombardi Trophy.

At 33 years old, this may be the best chance he'll have to change that.

He just has to get over an all too familiar step first.
