Cam Newton Calls Out Patriots for Having 'Easiest Road to the Super Bowl in NFL History'
Cam Newton had quite the bold take about one of his former teams on Wednesday.
"The New England Patriots have had the easiest road to the Super Bowl in NFL history!" he exclaimed on his podcast.
Newton cited the Los Angeles Chargers' injury-ravaged offensive line and the disappointing play of Justin Herbert to make his case, before noting that the Houston Texans were without Nico Collins and "deficient skillfully," which was backed by C.J. Stroud's four interceptions.
And now the Patriots will face a Denver Broncos team without its injured starting quarterback, Bo Nix, leaving them to face Jarrett Stidham.
There is more evidence to back up Newton's claim beyond just the playoffs. The Patriots played by far the easiest schedule in the NFL this season, with a .391 strength of schedule. They also had the lowest strength of victory (.370) out of all the teams that reached the postseason.
And the Patriots only played four games against eventual playoff teams (the Buffalo Bills twice alongside the Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers), going 2-2 in those contests. Against teams that didn't reach the postseason they went 12-1.
So while folks in New England may not like rival fans downplaying their current run based on what is perceived as an easy path, the data is hard to ignore.
