Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Devon Witherspoon Contract Options Exercised by Seahawks After Super Bowl Win
The Seattle Seahawks will be keeping two key players of their Super Bowl run through at least the 2027 season.
Seattle exercised its fifth-year options on both receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba and cornerback Devon Witherspoon. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network first reported the news, noting both are "in line for big deals."
Smith-Njigba had a $23.9 million club option for the 2027 season after his incredible 2025 effort that ended with an Offensive Player of the Year and a Lombardi Trophy for his team.

Over The Cap and Sporting News explained the projected option jumped nearly $7 million higher because he made the Pro Bowl in 2025. While he was also a Pro Bowler during the 2024 campaign, the escalator did not kick in on the option because he was a replacement for Terry McLaurin instead of a direct selection.
Witherspoon had a $21.2 million option.
Even at that higher price tag, these moves come as anything but a surprise.
The Seahawks made Smith-Njigba one of their franchise cornerstones when they selected him with a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft. He has been exactly that and is yet to miss a game during his three-year career that now includes back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons with more than 1,000 receiving yards.
The Ohio State product posted 100 catches for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns during his second year and then established himself as one of the best offensive playmakers in the league in 2025 with 119 catches for 1,793 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Smith-Njigba led the league in receiving yards and took home the Offensive Player of the Year as a result.
Seattle also seized the No. 1 seed in the NFC in large part because of his individual brilliance and parlayed that into a Super Bowl title thanks to postseason victories over the San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots.
Perhaps the best part for the Seahawks is the realization that he may only get better with more time. Smith-Njigba is just 24 years old and needed a mere three seasons in the league to become arguably the NFL's best wide receiver.
As he becomes more experienced and continues to adjust to NFL defenses, his production may only improve.
Witherspoon, meanwhile, earned Pro Bowl honors in each of the three seasons since the team selected him with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.
As a rookie, he racked up 79 tackles and three sacks while ranking No. 5 among all players with 16 passes defended. He finished No. 4 in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
Witherspoon started all 17 regular-season games during his 2024 campaign, amassing nine passes defended to go along with six tackles for loss. His 98 total tackles were also the second-most on the team.
The former Illinois standout took another step forward in 2025, as he earned Second Team All-Pro honors for the first time in his career.
Witherspoon recorded 72 tackles, seven passes defended, four quarterback hits and one interception in just 12 games while dealing with knee issues.
He operated as a key piece of a Seahawks secondary that owned the NFL's No. 10 pass defense in the regular season. Seattle also boasted the league's best scoring defense, allowing a mere 17.2 points on a weekly basis.
The 25-year-old continued to make his presence felt during the Seahawks' playoff run that was capped off by a 29-13 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX.
He compiled 17 tackles and four passes defended in three postseason games.
While the Seahawks look to defend their Super Bowl title in 2026, JSN and Witherspoon will each remain a key part of the roster.
