Matt Leinart Rips Bills Owner for 'Garbage' Comment About Keon Coleman in Viral Video

Scott PolacekJan 21, 2026

Count former NFL player Matt Leinart among those who were not pleased with Wednesday's comments from Buffalo Bills owner Terry Pegula.

Pegula turned heads when he told reporters it was the team's coaching staff that pushed to draft wide receiver Keon Coleman and not general manager Brandon Beane, who largely did so because he was "being a team player."

Leinart took to social media and called the remark "garbage" while pointing out that Coleman is "still on the team" even though he has largely failed to live up to expectations to this point:

Buffalo selected Coleman with the No. 33 overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft and surely envisioned him becoming a key part of its aerial attack. While he was solid as a rookie with 556 receiving yards and four touchdown catches, his yardage total dropped to 404 in his second year.

What's more, he was a healthy scratch multiple times down the stretch because of disciplinary reasons and coaching decisions.

While Coleman has not lived up to the expectations that were in place when he was drafted, he is also just 22 years old with plenty of potential. Yet that potential may not be realized in Buffalo, especially if the front office decides to trade him with former head coach Sean McDermott now fired and Beane and Pegula running the show.

Leinart may have some sympathy for Coleman since he didn't live up to expectations during his own playing career.

He was the No. 10 overall pick of the 2006 NFL draft after a dominant collegiate career at USC but went just 8-10 as a starter with 15 touchdown passes to 21 interceptions for the Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans and Oakland Raiders.

Coleman still has time to turn things around, and at least Leinart appeared to have his back Wednesday.
