New York Mets infielder Bo Bichette is switching numbers after seven years wearing No. 11 with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Mets announced the switch on Wednesday with a photo of a No. 19 Bichette jersey.

No. 11 will be worn next season in Queens by infielder Jorge Polanco, who signed a two-year, $40 million deal with the Mets in December.

Bichette spoke about the decision to sign with New York on Wednesday:

Bichette joined the Mets this week on a three-year, $126 million deal with options for 2027 and 2028.

The Mets originally posted a photo of him wearing No. 19 when first announcing his signing Tuesday.

Bichette's father, Dante Bichette, wore No. 19 for parts of his 14-year MLB career while playing for the Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox.

A new jersey number isn't the only change Bichette will be adjusting to in Queens.

Both Bichette and Polanco are expected to make positional switches this season, with Polanco moving from second base to first and Bichette giving up shortstop for third base.

That will allow the Mets to fit their latest signings around second baseman Marcus Semien, acquired via trade earlier this offseason, alongside returning shortstop Francisco Lindor.

It will also put Bichette and Polanco on track to play a position neither has MLB experience with. Bichette has never logged an inning at third base, having exclusively played shortstop before making his debut at second base during the 2025 World Series. Polanco, who has experience at second base and shortstop, made his lone first base appearance as a ninth-inning injury replacement.

The Mets are currently on track to debut three new starting infielders on Opening Day for just the fourth time in franchise history, per MLB.com's Sarah Langs.

The club will get the chance to put their new infield through reps together for the first time when Grapefruit League play kicks off on Feb. 21.
