Latest Giants Rumors on John Harbaugh's Coaching Staff, Potential Interview Requests

Julia StumbaughJan 21, 2026

John Harbaugh will reportedly try to draw heavily from his former Baltimore Ravens staff while building a new coaching team with the New York Giants.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported Wednesday that Harbaugh is expected to "request permission to speak with a significant number of Ravens coaches and employees, perhaps submitting over 20 slips."

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Ravens have already blocked "a handful of coaches" from making lateral moves to other teams.

The Ravens have already blocked special teams coordinator Chris Horton, and might also retain special teams assistant Anthony Levine Sr. and senior special teams coach Randy Brown, according to Garafolo.

The Bills allowed just 118 punt return yards from opposing teams last season, good for the second-fewest in the NFL.

Harbaugh was dismissed by the Ravens earlier this month after his 18th season as the franchise's head coach ended with a Week 18 loss that eliminated the team from playoff contention. He was announced as the Giants' head coach this week.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini previously reported that "a key pressure point" in the franchise's decision to fire Harbaugh "was his refusal to entertain any conversations about potentially moving on from offensive coordinator Todd Monken."

When asked Monday about the possibility of hiring Monken as offensive coordinator with the Giants, Harbaugh told the New York Post's Paul Schwartz, "Can't really say right now, there's a lot of moving parts. He's interviewing [Tuesday] for the Browns head coaching job, so there's a lot of balls still up in the NFL, that's for sure."

Whoever Harbaugh brings in to lead his offense will be tasked with managing the development of quarterback Jaxson Dart. The Giants' hopes of taking a step toward contention in the near future hinge in large part on Dart taking a step forward during his second NFL season and his first as a projected Week 1 starter.
