Trevon Diggs Released by Packers, What Are Top Landing Spots for Former Cowboys CB?

Joseph ZuckerJan 21, 2026

Trevon Diggs' tenure with the Green Bay Packers is over less than a month after it began.

The Packers announced Tuesday that they released the veteran cornerback. The move was expected as Green Bay saves a lot of money for 2026 by parting ways with the two-time Pro Bowler.

Diggs officially cleared waivers on Wednesday, making him a free agent.

The team also signed quarterback Kyle McCord—who was drafted in the sixth round by the Philadelphia Eagles last year—to a futures contract.

Diggs made two total appearances for the Packers following his departure from the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 30. He had two tackles in their Week 18 loss to the Minnesota Vikings and played one snap in their NFC Wild Card Round defeat to the Chicago Bears.

The 27-year-old was an All-Pro in 2021, his second season in the NFL. He intercepted 11 passes to lead the league.

Thanks in large part to a torn ACL in 2023, Diggs' performance rapidly fell off. This year while he was in Dallas, opposing quarterbacks completed 77.3 percent of their throws with a 157.2 passer rating when targeting him, per Pro Football Reference.

Tuesday's transaction doesn't mean the Packers are giving up on Diggs entirely.

Green Bay could turn around and sign him for much less than his original contract paid him. Claiming him off waivers at such a late juncture of the season could've been a way to familiarize him with the defensive setup with an eye toward reuniting at a later date.

In laying out the team's plans for two-way star Travis Hunter in 2026, Jacksonville Jaguars general manager James Gladstone referenced their need at corner with Greg Newsome, Montaric Brown and Christian Braswell, all hitting free agency.

Diggs could provide some depth for the AFC South champions and perhaps aid in Hunter's defensive development.

The Eagles also jump out because Diggs, 27, is young enough to where he can take a short-term contract on a contender and rebuild his value before getting a bigger deal in 2027.

With Quinyon Mitchell on the outside and Cooper DeJean as the nickelback, Philly could take a flier on Diggs and see if he contributes in a big way again.
