PARRISH LANDS TRYOUT WITH CANUCKS

In what may easily turn out to be a genius move the Vancouver Canucks took a gamble this week when they officially invited 32 year-old veteran Mark Parrish to training camp. This 32 year-old who is a 10 year veteran is coming off a sub par season that saw him score only 13 points in 44 games with the Dallas Stars. Still Parrish can prove to be a valuable scoring threat as he has scored 216 goals and 169 assists in what has been a very good career. Drafted third round by the Colorado Avalanche in 1996 Parrish has shown consistency in his career as he has scored 20 or more goals on six separate occasions. In his career Parrish has played for the Florida Panthers, New York Islanders, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild and the Stars.

DORSETT SIGNS EXTENSION WITH COLUMBUS

After providing some grit in wracking up 150 penalty minutes in his rookie year forward Derek Dorsett has signed a two year extension with the Columbus Blue Jackets. This former 2006 seventh round pick played 52 games where he also dished out 116 hits and scored four goals and five points on the year.

FLETCHER SIGNS EXTENSION WITH LEAFS

In what will definitely be applauded by the local fans the Toronto Maple Leafs trying to end a four- year playoff drought have recently signed former GM and current Senior Advisor Cliff Fletcher to a three- year extension. In other Leafs news they have made some changes in their administrative and scouting departments as they have brought in such names as Steve Kasper and Rob Cowie who will assists Mike Penny and Tom Watt in the scouting department. Meanwhile Scott Carter, John McMorrow, Frank Neal, Pierre Rioux, Roy Stasiuk and David Starman are additions made to the North American scouting staff.
