Broncos, Ben DiNucci Agree to Contract Ahead of AFC Title Game After Bo Nix Injury

Andrew PetersJan 18, 2026

With their starting quarterback set to miss the rest of the playoffs, the Denver Broncos are adding another quarterback to the team.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Broncos are signing veteran Ben DiNucci to their practice squad following Bo Nix's season-ending broken ankle that he suffered in Saturday's divisional-round win over the Buffalo Bills.

Nix, who has had a tremendous second season, suffered a broken ankle in overtime of Saturday's win.

DiNucci was a seventh-round draft pick out of James Madison in 2020, but he's seen little action since entering the league. He appeared in three games for the Dallas Cowboys as a rookie but has yet to take the field during the regular season since.

He had a brief stint in the XFL and has since spent time on the practice squads of the Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons. He was also a member of the Broncos' practice squad in 2023.

Putting DiNucci under center would seemingly be a last resort option for the Broncos. Sean Payton said on Saturday that Jarred Stidham will be the starter and Sam Ehlinger will back him up.

Stidham, a fourth-round draft pick by the New England Patriots in 2019, has not yet started this season and has appeared in just one game.

"Stiddy is ready to go," Payton told reporters. "... He's ready, he's ready. I feel like I've got a two who's capable of starting for a number of teams, and I know he feels the same way. Watch out, just watch."
