The Jannik Sinner-Carlos Alcaraz rivalry could write its latest chapter in Melbourne.
Sinner and Alcaraz are the top two seeds and reside on opposite ends of the men's singles bracket.
No. 3 seed Alexander Zverev is the biggest threat to upset the potential Sinner-Alcaraz final.
Novak Djokovic can never be counted out. The No. 4 seed is one year older, but he's reached the semifinals in his last six appearances in Melbourne.
Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz are the best male hopefuls for the Americans. The pair of top-10 seeds are strong hard-court players, but they both reside in the bottom half of the bracket with Djokovic, Alcaraz and No. 5 seed Lorenzo Musetti.
Aryna Sabalenka must be viewed as the favorite in women's singles. The No. 1 seed has been to three straight finals in Australia. She's made the last six hard-court Grand Slam finals.
Sabalenka also has the benefit of an easier draw to reach the final than most of the top contenders, who are concentrated in the bottom half.
Three of the top American contenders (Madison Keys, Jessica Pegula and Amanda Anisimova), Naomi Osaka, Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina are all in the bottom half of the women's draw.
Sabalenka's biggest threat to reach the final is Coco Gauff. The pair of top-three seeds would not face each other until the semifinals.
Keys is the reigning women's champion, but any one of her, Pegula, Gauff and Anisimova could make deep runs in search of another American Grand Slam title.
