Over the past few months, Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky have become allies and friends thanks to their shared issues with The Kabuki Warriors. That led to a title opportunity on the Jan. 5 episode of Raw.
Ripley and Sky got the better of Asuka and Kairi Sane on the first Raw of 2026, making them women's tag team champions as a unit for the first time.
However, it wasn't long before multiple tandems stepped up and declared their intention to go after the WWE women's tag team titles.
On the Jan. 12 episode of Raw, general manager Adam Pearce booked a three-way tag team match to determine the No. 1 contenders. Morgan and Perez beat The Kabuki Warriors and the team of Bayley and Lyra Valkyria to earn their opportunity.
Morgan and Perez were a fitting team to earn the No. 1 contendership since Morgan technically never lost the women's tag titles.
Back in June, Morgan got injured while she and Rodriguez were the titleholders. Liv proceeded to miss over five months of action, and while she was out, Perez stepped up as Raquel's new partner.
Rodriguez and Perez dropped the titles when Morgan was on the shelf, but Saturday Night's Main Event represented Liv's first chance to take the championships back.
However, in order to do so, she and Perez needed to get past two of the best individual wrestlers the WWE women's division has to offer.
In addition to being great individually, Ripley and Sky have also become a legitimate team, though, and their chemistry was on full display in a successful title defense against Liv and Roxanne.
