Chargers Rumors on Brian Daboll, OC Search for Jim Harbaugh's Coaching Staff

The Los Angeles Chargers will interview former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll for the team's vacant offensive coordinator position, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.

Daboll already interviewed with the Tennessee Titans for the team's opening at head coach and has "significant" interest from around the league for offensive coordinator roles, per Pelissero.

The Chargers are searching for a new offensive coordinator on Jim Harbaugh's staff after Greg Roman was fired on Tuesday.

As for Daboll, he served as New York's head coach from 2022-25 and compiled a record of 20-40-1 with the team. The Giants advanced to the divisional round of the playoffs in his first year patrolling the sidelines, but their win total decreased in each of the next three seasons.

He was ultimately fired after New York opened its 2025 campaign with a 2-8 record.

While the end of Daboll's head coaching tenure was unsuccessful, his track record as an offensive coordinator is much different.

He served as the Buffalo Bills' offensive coordinator from 2018-21, helping the team begin its current stretch of seven consecutive playoff appearances. During Daboll's final year with the Bills in 2021, they ranked No. 3 in scoring offense and No. 5 in total offense among all teams.

He's been particularly known for his work with quarterbacks, as Josh Allen has praised him for his influence.

"In terms of my path of my career and getting better, he was probably the most influential one," Allen said in Oct. 2023, per ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg. "He's a guy that I [would] talk to each and every day."

The Chargers could be targeting Daboll to help Justin Herbert look like his former self, as his individual production has taken a step back in recent years.

Herbert couldn't rack up at least 4,000 pass yards in either of his two seasons under Roman after surpassing the 4,000-yard threshold in three of the four years prior to his arrival.

Los Angeles finished with a record of 11-6 in 2025, but its season came to a quick end with a 16-3 loss to the New England Patriots in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
